2S Routines and Expectations
Arrival: School begins at 8:00 AM. Children who arrive early should wait in the cafeteria (not outside the classroom) until they are dismissed to classrooms at 7:55 AM. Children who arrive after 8:00 AM should sign in at the office.
Morning Routine: Every morning, members of 2S will be expected to follow a set of routines to foster independence and responsibility. These routines are posted both outside and inside our classroom. Students should take care of their backpacks, jackets, snacks and lunches independently. They should say good-bye to family members/caregivers outside of the classroom before 8:00 AM. Once inside, they sign in on our attendance chart and read and follow directions contained in the Morning Message. It is essential that your child arrive at school on time and ready to begin the day.
Snack: Please send a healthy NUT and SESAME FREE snack and a drink for your child each day.
Morning Meeting: Each morning our class gathers to greet each other, to participate in community building activities/games and to get organized for the school day. The Morning Meeting model is based on the “Responsive Classroom” Social Approach to learning. This approach consists of using practical strategies and routines for integrating social and academic learning throughout the school day.
Class Meeting: Our class holds regular problem solving meetings to deal with any issues, problems or difficult situations that members of the class feel need to be addressed. During this type of meeting, students practice sharing ideas, brainstorming solutions to problems, working cooperatively to develop strategies and plans of action that address certain issues and practicing how to use those strategies and action plans. By creating a safe and respectful classroom community, our class can focus on learning and building strong, caring friendships.
Movement Breaks and Yoga: Our class usually takes at least one indoor movement break every day in order to reenergize. We run in place for 20 second intervals called “Tabadas.” After a number of tabadas, we find that we can return to learning with renewed concentration. Our class also practices yoga as a way to refresh and refocus.
Home-School Folder: Important information about our class and notices from the Main Office will be sent home every day in your child’s orange “Home-School” folder. Please send this folder back every day! Also, please check our class website frequently for updates as well.
